Over 11,000 Instagram, Facebook, and Messenger users reported problems accessing the applications, sending messages, and checking in.
On Friday, Meta Sites said that it has resolved the problem that was preventing users from accessing its social media platforms.
“Earlier today, a configuration update caused some individuals to have difficulty accessing our goods,” a Meta representative said.
According to the outage monitoring website Downdetector.com, over 11,000 Instagram, Facebook, and Messenger users reported problems accessing the apps, sending messages, and login into their accounts.
Downdetector monitors outages by aggregating status updates from many sources, including user-submitted faults on its platform. The outage might impact a bigger number of people.
Just earlier this week, Meta’s messaging service WhatsApp had a worldwide outage, which was eventually fixed.
According to data from the website and app downtime monitoring firm Downdetector, users in India started reporting problems using WhatsApp on October 25 at about 12:30pm, with around 2,610 incidents.
WhatsApp claimed in a late-night statement on Tuesday that the outage was caused by a “technical fault.” “The short outage was caused by a technical fault on our side and has since been repaired,” stated a Meta business spokeswoman.
Downdetector received 63,930 user complaints from users in the United Kingdom, while users in Brazil and Spain received 4,248 and 26,043 reports, respectively.
According to Downdetector’s “heat-map,” Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, and other Indian cities seem to be the most impacted by the outage.
WhatsApp Web and WhatsApp’s desktop applications, which operate independently of the internet connection of the linked phone, seem to be equally impacted by the outage.
According to reports, the IT Ministry has requested that WhatsApp submit a report detailing the outage situation. Union Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw acknowledged the disruption, adding, “We have lakhs of WhatsApp users throughout the nation, and we have requested a full report from the business on the outage.”
According to official sources, the social networking site has now filed its report on the service interruption to the IT ministry.
