The actor was recently spotted in character in a Black Adam post-credits sequence.

Henry Cavill reprises his role as Superman. Following a cameo in Black Adam’s post-credits sequence, The Witcher actor announced his return to the character through an Instagram video. “I wanted to make it clear that I am returning as Superman, and the picture you see in this post and what you saw in Black Adam are only a sample of what’s to come,” he added, defining his future in the DC Extended Universe. The news follows last week’s claims that Warner Bros. was considering a sequel to 2013’s Man of Steel and was searching for writers to work on it.

Cavill, 39, did not go into additional information but thanked fans for their unwavering support in making this a reality. “I guarantee it will be rewarded,” he says in the end. Cavill’s last appearance as Superman was in Zack Snyder’s Justice League in 2021, after which he was shelved until Dwayne Johnson revealed his comeback in the Black Adam post-credits sequence. Johnson has been outspoken about his desire to see his heavyweight fight with Superman on the big screen, even suggesting that the build-up is the “whole purpose” of the film.

During its first weekend, Black Adam earned an amazing $140 million (about Rs. 1,157 crore) at the worldwide box office, announcing Cavill’s return to the series. In the short scene, Superman emerges from the fog and confronts Black Adam. What’s more intriguing here is the choice of theme, which is evocative of the famous John Williams music used for Christopher Reeves’ incarnation of the character. In an interview with io9, Black Adam composer Lorne Balfe acknowledged that the music was chosen after much deliberation – a far cry from the Hans Zimmer track used in Snyder’s version, indicating Warner Bros.’ ongoing attempts to distance itself from the director’s vision.

“That’s a tough topic to have because it divides so many people.” From my perspective, there was a lot of thinking put into why that topic was picked. It wasn’t a spur-of-the-moment thinking. So it’s quite tough,” Balfe said. “Thought went into it and why, and there’s a significance to it that I hope you’ll find… I simply didn’t anticipate it would elicit such a response.”

Fans also noticed a change in Cavill’s haircut, both in the post-credits sequence and in the photograph included in his Instagram post. Instead of the smooth, swooped-back haircut shown in the Snydeverse, we may see Superman sporting his distinctive spit curl, as seen in comic books, in the future.

These announcements follow an internal shakeup in the DC Films department, as Warner Bros. Discovery strives to find its own equivalent of Kevin Feige — the primary architect of the Marvel Cinematic Universe — as the studio embarks on a “reset” with a new staff. Former CEO Walter Hamada has resigned. exited after witnessing the release of Black Adam. According to reports from last week, he disputed Johnson’s ambitions to bring Cavill back to the mega-budget series. However, Johnson was compelled to meet with Warner Bros. Pictures executives Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy, who granted his request.

Back in August, executive-turned-producer Dan Lin was supposedly in the running to take over as CEO of DC Films, but nothing came of it. The producer is also participating in the forthcoming Netflix live-action Death Note adaptation by the Duffer Brothers.
